Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Couples Therapy

OCD can be tricky to navigate in the context of your relationship. If you have OCD, you may feel angry or upset when your partner doesn’t accommodate your triggers. And if your partner has OCD, you may struggle to show up for them while still taking care of yourself.

Couples therapy may be a place to . . .

  • Reconnect with each other after years of the OCD getting in the way
  • Discover new ways of interacting that feel good to both of you and don’t fuel the OCD
  • Process painful feelings that may have accumulated over time in a nonjudgmental, facilitated space

According to the International OCD Foundation (https://iocdf.org/), the “gold standard” for OCD treatment is Exposure and Response Prevention, a CBT-based therapy in which I have training. If you are receiving this treatment individually, I would be very glad to collaborate/consult with your individual therapist so that couples therapy may be a supportive addition to your hard work.
